According to the policy approved by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the contact information a domain is registered with must be valid and up to date at all times. Besides, this information is publicly accessible on WHOIS websites and while this may not be a problem for corporations, it may not be very acceptable for individuals, since everybody can see their names and their personal home and email addresses, especially in times when identity theft isn’t that uncommon. That is the reason why registrars have come up with a service that conceals the details of their customers without modifying them. The service is called ID Protection, Privacy Protection or WHOIS Protection. If it is activated, people will view the details of the registrar, not the domain owner’s, if they make a WHOIS search. The ID Protection service is supported by all generic top-level domain name extensions, but it’s still impossible to hide your private info with some country-code ones.

ID Protection in Cloud Hosting

If you have ordered a Linux cloud hosting from our company and you have registered one or more domains under your account, you’ll be able to enable ID Protection for any of them easily and to keep your private details safe. Of course, this will be possible only with the TLD extensions that support such a service. In your Hepsia Control Panel, you’ll notice an “ID Protect” sign on the right-hand side of each of your domains. Its colour will show you if a domain name is protected or not and in the second case, you can add ID Protection with only a couple of mouse clicks. In this way, you can secure your personal details even if you have not activated the ID Protection service during the hosting account activation process. You will be able to renew or to disable the ID Protection service for any of your domain names just as easily.

ID Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

Ordering ID Protection for any domain name is exceptionally easy in case you have a semi-dedicated server. If the domain name is registered through us, it will be listed in the Registered Domains section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel that is included with each and every semi-dedicated server plan. If a given generic or country-code domain is ID Protection-eligible, you’ll see a small button on its right. To enable the service, you’ll need to click on it. In the exact same fashion, you can also renew or disable the service. You can enable ID Protection for a domain during the registration procedure as well, but since the ID Protection service is optional, we’ll give you the chance to add it to any of your domains at a later time if you think things over and opt to hide your private details from the public after you’ve already ordered the semi-dedicated account.
